The Social Media Trio become One

Managing Digital Presence

WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger are to integrate according to recent news.

The merger of Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger into one system may be due to the UK’s Information Commissioner’s office. The ICO is conducting an investigation into how much data is shared between any two of the applications by Facebook.

It is to allow users to communicate across platforms with one account, Mark Zuckerberg said to the New York Times.

The competing products will no longer run separately. The merger is said to be completed by the end of this year, or early 2020.

For those who predominantly use WhatsApp as a messaging service, this integrated service will mean nothing more. Or, will it? In recent years, there has been an increase in use of Instagram messaging service.

Instagram messaging service is used just as WhatsApp. Therefore, it does make sense to have it integrated because at the moment we have messages coming from both. Let’s not forget, we still have the mobile service provider allowing text messages, also known as SMS.

We cannot seem to get away from being ‘pinged’ every time we are on a social media platform. With this trinity of messaging platforms all rolled into one, it seems there is definitely no getting away from it. Unless, there is an option to continue using the ‘hide from timeline’ when I am online.

Positive opportunity for businesses

Apparently, the benefit is that it is allowing businesses the opportunity to utilise one platform instead of several. Great, it brings down my work load significantly. However, what about targeting the audience in specific places?

When we ‘ghost’ our clients’ online platforms, they have different target audiences using specific social media platforms. Perhaps we will all need to be on Facebook in the future, if all messaging is to stem from Facebook.

Apparently, the merger of Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook messenger makes it easier to access all connections across all online networks. Other benefits will include end-to-end encryption on every messaging platform to keep messaging secure. It will also close the gap on users contacting those they don’t know.  Click here to read more on the social media integration.
